Are you thinking of commissioning a choir piece or vocal arrangement? Get in touch!
My approach is to work together with you and your group, over a period of time, in order to create a work that is just right for your particular choir or vocal group. As an experienced, and fascinated, educator, my arrangements will also often focus on methods to develop a choirs sound, whilst also being accessible and - hopefully - thrilling for singers to share. I've commissioned several composers myself, and sometimes felt isolated, and eventually left with a work that wasn't the right fit for the particular group. Therefore I try to keep conductors and choirs as central to the development process as possible.
Possibilities include:
- Either coming in person to a rehearsal, or watching significant amounts of rehearsal footage
- Regular consultations during the process, to find and maintain the direction of the composition
- Providing audio 'choir help' files, for your singers to use, easing the learning process. These can be by parts alone, or with combinations of all parts and one / some dominant.
- Adapting to the particular strengths and weaknesses of your group, such as a lovely soloist or a struggling line
If you wish, I can design a composition that is flexible in terms of: gender, solo instrumentals, religious / non religious text etc. I also create compositions which are substantially built out of repetition and a contain a workshop rehearsal process. It is also possible to include a 'rehearsal pack', highlighting time saving rehearsal strategies, compositional links, work processes and so on; for any conductors who feels less confident...or over-stretched!
